The Miserables

Les Miserables
1935 Nominee

100 Words
The alternate title comes to mind whenever I see the poster for this musical-inspiring show, although this version has no musical numbers. Jean Valjean is the man you want if your name is Javert. Forced to serve time for theft, Jean Valjean’s sentence begins with the granting of his freedom. A compassionate Bishop and candlesticks, as they often do, light the way to his next phase of life. Raising Cosette into a young woman is easier than tearing her away from the rebellious young man that captures her heart, which in turn could be easier than evading the suspicious Javert.

Heartfelt thanks to Mr. Hugo, his fine work; all of the continued critical life lessons from his enduring work of art.

One of the best books ever written. The end. Just when I was SURE they’d given up those dreadful, maudlin, headshot without necks, cutouts of casts members for the posters … ugh!
