The Great Ziegfeld
1936 Best Picture
100 Words
Watching this chap, one is apt to nap through the many temper tantrums of his lady friends and wives. There’s a folly, for certain – this one called the curtain on the movie of the year, but there is no soul in here! The spectacle brings cheer, though the length of the film is near the three-hour mark and even for a lark, that’s quite an investment of time, just as the life of the leading man suggests. I wanted to get the thrills that might be instilled by such a film, but I don’t get why it got the Best.
