Orchestrating Dreams

100 Men and a Girl
1937 Nominee

100 Words
Patsy’s daddy plays the trombone, but with not a penny to show for it, he takes a big risk and lies that Stokowski hired him for the orchestra. Nothing gets past Patsy or her feathered hat and at that, she finds out the truth. The girl’s got moxy and pipes to boot, so she tries her hand at lying and might be better at that than dad. Featuring Mozart throughout and Adolphe Menjou not playing a villain for once (unless you count the whole fibbing bit), Deanna’s voice is something to bet on, as long as you’re moved by music.

Really? The maudlin sawed off headshot even though the star appears in the poster’s nice, big photo? I truly thought we were done, as you read in one of my prior 1937 replies. Wow. And the title … all I can think of is that AWFUL old joke about Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, and Sarah Pippeline.
