Alexander’s Ragtime Band
1938 Nominee
100 Words
The classical San Francisco musician becomes a jazz star with a little lady named Stella (I thought this dame and her new nemesis were from Chicago, no?). The strings of the instruments aren’t the only ones thrumming; those heartstrings get plucked too, and what a good friend Charlie has to gladly hand over his dame to his best friend and bandmate. Unfortunately, there’s trouble in paradise for everyone around because Stella and Charlie know how to string together a duet, but not a productive conversation, so the band joins the army, although Stella is the real trooper of the story.
