Cooper Looper

Sergeant York
1941 Nominee

100 Words
Is anyone keeping track of my Young Frankenstein references? Because the alternate title is another one, readers. Gary Cooper snagged his first of two Golden Boys for this biopic about a Bible-toting yokel turned soldier because God and country are synonymous for him. Given the context of World War II, it’s patriotic. At this time in history…it’s a little controversial, to say the least. Dressed up like a million-dollar trooper, Cooper does mighty fine as Alvin York, a sharpshooter whose rural upbringing helps bring down the enemy during the first World War (no thanks to the guy with the grenade).

Bible-toting sharpshooter … you’re right; given the times, sounds awfully controversial. Thou shall not watch.
