Marine Corps Memory

Wake Island
1942 Nominee

100 Words
The Marines made it to Wake Island, where they stood their ground as long as they possibly could during the second World War. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Americans entered the conflict and battled alongside their allies across the pond – and at home. Based on true events, this movie has what all war movies have for me, Readers: Too much reality. Explain to me why I can watch a film about a real-life serial killer with fascination, but war movies zap all the energy out of me. It’s worth the watch if you like history or the military.

Maybe it’s because serial killers fascinate you, but everyday soldiers, who foolishly go off to war risking all, for the benefit of rich powerful (largely) men, strike you as – well – ‘not’ fascinating. Hmmm. Worse, tragic.
