Too-Louse Lautrec

Moulin Rouge
1952 Nominee

100 Words
The alternate title is a SpongeBob SquarePants punchline. The painter was a broken man, mentally and physically, and he carried this pain into his artwork and his relationships. Toulouse and Marie struggle to understand each other, while Toulouse perhaps doesn’t totally understand himself.

The colors and the interplay between the actors are both aggressive (the former standard for the filmmaking, the latter a testament to the skill of the players). I felt devastated for Toulouse, and I found that this one got stuck in my head; it’s a haunting film. As far as watching it goes, you have nothing Toulouse.

Wow! You are an expert on word-play. I’ve not seen this film; you’ve written enough to make me want to. Of course, I’m still obsessed with the old movie posters. This one has writing at the top, in the center that can’t be read … and it’s red. Is that an alarm signal? If it wasn’t for the title, I would have thought this was another western, featuring Can-Can, ‘buffalo gals won’t you come out tonight’ girls in cowboy saloon.
