I had never seen this film! It plays a crucial role in another, later movie called Only You, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei.

Gregory Peck is held in check by her royal highness, Smitty. It’s a little bit whimsical and a whole lot classical. I wanted just a little more romance and a little less princess, but setting a love story in Italy had to be the smartest strategy I ever saw, just short of giving Audrey Hepburn such a lovely vehicle for her debut (a scooter).

It’s a bit like It Happened One Night without Clark’s snark.
