Texas with a Dollar Sign

Giant
1956 Nominee

100 Words
Did you know that James Dean was in three movies? This is one of them. It lives up to its title, clocking over three hours. In the style of Cavalcade and Cimarron, it’s a sweeping epic about the state of Texas and its Texan folk. James Dean is so compelling that he distracts from Elizabeth Taylor, and if you’ve ever gotten an eyeful of Elizabeth, you’ll know that’s not an easy task. Elizabeth and Rock Hudson raise a pile of Texan children and struggle to navigate racial disparity as well as their inbred differences – a born Texan and a married-into-one.

Yes, I did know that James Dean was only in 3 pics – and I JUST HAPPENED to mention the other 2 in response to one of your posts from 1955 – precisely because neither one of those movies were nominated for best pic (but should have been). Yes it was a long movie; but of the three you’ve covered thus far, it’s the best one.
