Elizabeth Failer

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
1958 Nominee

100 Words
This is based on a Tennessee Williams play, so profuse sweating is a key component to this hot roof. Elizabeth Taylor plays a sex-starved wifey to Paul Newman’s hobbling alcoholic, sporting a crutch bestowed after drunk hurdle-jumping. While he blames his wife for the death of his friend, his father is given a bill of good health, but all of this could be malodorous mendacity. Brick tries to encourage his family to quit lying all of the time, but the truth doesn’t land always land sweetly – even when it looks like Elizabeth Taylor trying to cozy up next to you.

I vaguely remember the feeling I had of hot swamp, steam, sweaty. That is my total memory of this film; you nailed it.
