Joe wants to make a name for himself and as a result, he’s interested in getting rich quick. In Joe’s case, that means getting hitched quick to a wealthy socialite. Although he does seem to really admire Susan, he also comes off like a bit of a creep (and wouldn’t you know it? Sweet Susan is totally into it).

Meanwhile, he acts in a stage play alongside an older woman who seems to me inspired a certain Mrs. Robinson (and here’s to you, Room at the Top).

It’s hard to root for Joe, but the women are well above average.
