It’s a Boat Time

Fanny
1961 Nominee

100 Words
It’s uncanny that Fanny just so happened to marry right after she carried on with the bartender’s son Marius who’s gone to sea (dear me, she’s eighteen). It might be best that she request that no one looks too closely at the birth date of their baby boy. Oh boy, now it really is Panisse & Son. What fun! He’s the only one who can carry on the mighty (ish) legacy.

Chevalier and Boyer (oh boy, it’s Boyer) seem content to play against a melodramatic, romantic (ish) backdrop and frankly, the two of them are more fun to watch anyway.

I’m on a roll here: This poster claims that this movie is: “All the love stories of the world rolled into one” …. really? Adam and Eve? Samson and Delilah? Anthony and Cleopatra? Romeo and Juliet? Robinhood and Maid Marian? Rhett Butler and Scarlet O’Hara? Tarzan and Jane? WHO checked off these posters before they went to press?
