Good Mourning

Zorba the Greek
1964 Nominee

100 Words
An Englishman travels to Greece and along the way, he acquires a Greek that willingly helps him out with everything because if you believe this Greek man, Zorba, he’s good at a lot of things. The English writer learns to navigate relations with widows. Zorba meets one of his own and she’s a sad little thing, but she perks right up in the presence of Zorba.

The Englishman, meanwhile, is the subject of another wild-eyed widow’s gazing, and isn’t it amazing how few rights women have that even wandering eyes can have a woman had? When in pain, men dance.

Damn this was a tough one for me to watch, because I knew it was true. Watching not the men – but the WOMEN – triumphant in that gal being punished; now that is the devil in us – no need to go to the grave to see it; it’s right here.
