It’s Fun to Stay at the…Soviet Union

The Russians are Coming the Russians are Coming

What exactly is Alan Arkin wearing? Is he one of the YMCA guys? He’s speaking Russian! I think! Is it real Russian, or movie Russian?

This movie is ridiculous. The level of panic scourging the small town that believes the Russians are there to invade (they’re not; the submarine broke down) reminds us all that while we have come a long way, we also don’t understand half the things happening on our own soil half of the time (I certainly don’t, especially now).

As the Americans and Russians grapple to reach an understanding that sometimes involves smooching, we all laugh.

As a kid growing up around Americans terrified of ‘the communists,’ this movie was hiIarious. I can’t remember the end … did the young man stay?
