All Bets are Off

Funny Girl
1968 Nominee

I gotta say – I don’t get it. Fanny might look a little funny (it’s the nose, we know, but honestly she’s pretty, well, pretty, and that voice!), but the idea that Doctor Zhivago chooses card games over the game of love doesn’t really hit a high note with me.

On another note, though, what’s with Omar Shariff lunging at women to smooch them in all of these films? I don’t necessarily object; it’s just a bit frightening.

This is a much better portrayal of Ziegfeld than that snooze fest from 1936.

Too bad Barb had to share with Queen Kate.

A star was born. My mom saw the real Fanny Brice on stage in NYC in the 30s. She said she had never laughed so hard.
