The lead actor in this film, in his 40s, went on to play a role in a film for the next round of nominees – a little number called The Exorcist (I’m scared already). In this film, the aging makeup was so good that rumors abound that Mr. von Sydow couldn’t get roles because everyone thought the 40-something actor was elderly. That’s probably because they didn’t see this film and I can’t say I blame them. It’s a large time investment to watch a group of hopeful, harried Swedes talk up a country that is so hostile to its newcomers today.
