Dizzy

Disraeli
1929 Nominee

100 Words after locating a copy…
Prime Minister, matchmaker, supremely British, and what on earth is going on with that hairstyle? Benjamin Disraeli plans to purchase the Suez Canal on England’s behalf, but if that’s only half of the plan. Poor young Charles has been rebuffed and it’s high time he got together once and for all with Clarissa, who explained it all to him in the garden. Spies lurk all around the Prime Minister’s living quarters, but Disraeli with the help of his loyal wife stays one step ahead and pretends to know less than he does under the clever guise of blue and white.

100 Words: Original
George Arliss won Best Actor for playing a politician and who the heck knows what else? Not presumed lost, but difficult to find…I haven’t found it and therefore, I haven’t seen this one! That said, I do believe a copy exists somewhere, perhaps several, and if you have the notion to direct me toward one, do be a dear and let me know where I can find this 1929 nominee. I prefer to see the film rather than listen to the radio show reprisal (which exists on the internet) because in this regard, I am a bit of a snob.

Perhaps this is one of Hollywood’s first movies that features a ‘foreigner’ in the lead? I will look for a copy of this and let you know if I find one.
