Dollars and Sentiments

Grand Hotel
1931 Best Picture

100 Words
Welcome to the Grand Hotel in Berlin, where nothing ever happens if you believe that traumatized doctor. Most of these people are looking for money in one of the most expensive establishments in Germany, except for that bereft ballerina, wooed by a broke (but not broken) baron. There’s the burned out employee whose health is poor and whose cranky boss is worried about pending deals, so much so that he’s hired a lovely woman to take some…dictation for him (of course, she’s only in it for the money because his character leaves a lot to be desired).

Enjoy your stay.

Here are a couple of Vicki Baum (author) quotes that struck me:)

Regarding a home in Los Angeles:

”my house is like a good shoe: small outside, yet large and comfortable on the inside….”

    Her own writing: “I know what I’m worth: I am a first-rate second-rate author.

Good blogpost and good quotes above from Galen. I have a sneaking suspicion this will be my fav for 1931! And, there are five actors listed on the poster – and I DO know every one of them; YEAH!
