High Five

One of only three films so far to take home The Big Five, this is one of my favorites. Rich new bride Ellie Andrews escapes her overbearing father. She crosses paths with a reporter and the two make a deal: Her story for his cooperation in getting her back to her hubby. Streetwise Peter tries to knock some street smarts into Ellie, but she knows a thing or two about hitchhiking. A ruse or a hundred later, between the walls of Jericho, something else might keep this pair together, if it weren’t for her husband and all of her money…

ol’ Clark took his “colossal ego” to most of his scripts I think… understandably so

I’m not sure how much of it was acting…Did you know that the way Bugs Bunny eats carrots was based on Clark’s character in this movie? 🥕

That’s a trivial bit of bunny-hunny history I didn’t know. Did YOU know, that the scene when Gable undresses for bed and isn’t wearing an undershirt is credited for significantly plummeted the sales of men’s T shirts? All men wore them under their dress shirts – until Clark didn’t. Loved this film and always will! Love the stats too – had to look up the other 2 flicks that swept the ‘Big Five’ – certainly not screwball comedies like this film: ‘One Flew Over …’ & ‘Silence of the Lambs’. ScreenRant points out that ‘La La Land’ came close. I’m stunned. THAT movie winning so many oscars was responsible for me opting to tune out of watching the Oscars after decades. We all have different tastes. I’ll take the dunked donut in milk of coffee over anything ‘La La’ has to offer any day.
