Alice Adams
1935 Nominee
100 Words
Alice uses her hands to communicate in whimsy while she tries to break out of the constraints set by her dysfunctional fam and her place in the little town of South Renford. A lovely fellow named Arthur finally pays attention to her, but could it be that he is betrothed to another lady of a similar class instead? Poor Alice (in every sense of the word, and unfortunately in South Renford such a thing does matter), she seems a bit unhinged, but with a heart and dreams bigger than a small town can contain, imagination is always a safer space.
