Sailor’s Warning

Mutiny on the Bounty
1935 Best Picture

100 Words
The Brits just scooped young lads right out of their new families to build up their fleet. Based on a true plight, aboard The Bounty, in a quest for breadfruit (look it up), the men are coerced and lashed and limited by Captain Bligh at every pitch from the ever-changing sea. Upon losing their hearts (and every last shirt) in Tahiti, two of the officers form a bond and one of them goes so far as to take over the ship (of course it’s the same troublemaker from It Happened One Night and you haven’t seen the last of him)!

Whether rugged handsome or pretty-boy Christian (Gable / Brando)_both contributed, I fear to the silencing of one of the the greatest sailing feats of all time:
Bligh’s successful navigation in a small boat, once booted off the Bounty, to Australian safety was an amazing accomplishment…even for today.

That aside, considering the conditions aboard the ships of the day plus the “pressing” of boys and men, one can’t much question their willingness to mutiny once ‘exposed’ to the bounty of South Sea Island paradise.

This true story endures; to date, there are at least five movies based on the mutiny of the HMS Bounty in 1789 (A ship in the Royal Navy.) As for for Gable; alas we never saw enough of him!
