Don’t Have a Cow

In Old Chicago
1937 Nominee

100 Words
Mrs. O’Leary runs the French Laundry (actual laundry, not to be confused with the culinary establishment) after a freak accident leaves her alone with three growing boys. Set up in sweet home Chicago, the boys grow into political party-ers; one runs for mayor and Dion sweet talks Belle into pondering why men buy the cow if they’re getting the free milk (if you catch my drift). Meanwhile, the real cow Daisy needs a bar between her legs to keep her from kicking up too much trouble, and to this day that’s how we Chicagoans say the whole incendiary incident started.

Don’t cry over spilt milk. Though it’s dropped to three now, Chicago will always be this country’s ‘Second City’.
