Seeing the Future

Grand Illusion
1938 Nominee

100 Words
The first of its kind, now let’s unwind to the sound of men speaking French, and German, and even some English. A subtitled film, but don’t hold that against it for a lack of desire to read during a movie is more about the moviegoer than the material. A poetic story about French prisoners of war desperate to escape their confines hold a grand illusion in their heavy hearts: This war will be the last one. Hindsight, that dark gift, is grander than any illusion; with the 1938 release date, we know that the illusion proved not to be real.
