Stagecoach
1939 Nominee
100 Words
Well, if it isn’t John Wayne at last. That slow talking cowboy joins the ranks as the Ringo Kid, an outlaw whose company includes a gambler, an anxious wife, Dallas (the working girl), and an alcoholic doctor. The coach company await their fate amidst the threat of assaults from the Apache tribe, managing to add one more to their party when Mrs. Mallory has a baby. Admittedly, the whole film doesn’t take place in a coach (disappointing), but it does make for a satisfying and believable love story; plus, the drunk doctor won an Oscar. What more could anyone want?
