Foyled Again

Kitty Foyle
1940 Nominee

100 Words
Fred Astaire’s dance partner gives her dancing shoes a break and her acting chops a go in this examination of the female role in romantic relationships. Though the lovers still tango cheek to cheek (does anyone actually sit that way?), Ginger proves she can go toe to toe with any man the camera can put in its path. On marriage and courtship, Ginger as Kitty holds her own. She falls in love with the wrong man for the right reasons and the seasons of their affair reveal that not everything is fair when it comes to love and money, honey.

Rogers: a well rounded star; what a wonderful way to live- dancing through life… yet with lots of interests and talents to contribute one’s personal contentment. All of this knowing and maneuvering through THE deleterious paternalism of yesterday (and today). Among so many others she said, “It’s a man’s world.” Well done, Virginia (Ginger).
