Taking Sides

Watch on the Rhine
1943 Nominee

100 Words
The head of the house is German, but that doesn’t mean he played for the Nazis. Even those in the country could fight against the terror that plagued Europe in the 40s. Coming to America with his wife and children, Kurt finds suspicion in every corner and peace only in the arms of his wife. The Count (a more sinister version than that of the Sesame Street kind) counts on his gambling debts to be paid and keeps a close watch on David’s flirtations with his own wife, whose knowledge of her husband’s extracurricular activities cause her to leave him.
