The Best Years of Our Lives
1946 Best Picture
100 Words
Three soldiers return home from World War II to discover the lives they left behind have changed, and so have they. Homer is hand-less and helpless in the face of the woman he promised to make his wife. Fred is chagrined by his new wife’s spending habits and by her habit of keeping the company of other men. The other Fred (March, he goes by Al) has acquired his own habit of staying comfortably in his cups. Watching love bloom in hearts darkened by the conflict is a beautiful burst of hope.
Plus Fred is in this movie. Remember him?
