Growing up in the country, Jody has to learn to work the farm with Ma and Pa. He has three friends, including one who hurt his leg when he tried to fly. He doesn’t go to school. Ma and Pa are big-name actors and frankly, the story of a kid who adopts a baby deer is sweet, but Best Picture material…? Ma is fierce and Pa is friendly, but when the yearling, Flag, starts chomping on the crops, the family has to make a decision and Spoiler Alert: It’s awful. I think the lesson here is don’t adopt a deer.
