The Play’s the Thing

Hamlet

To be filmed, or not to be filmed? That is the question under consideration when adapting a play to a movie. While one could argue that this makes Shakespeare more accessible, could the Bard bear to see a play depicted in the way it was not intended to be performed? Perhaps the ghost of William Shakespeare would torment us all if he could.
Olivier was a mighty talent, but I don’t know that this is my preference for Shakespearian viewing.
It might sound funny Readers, but nothing captures the energy of the theater yet and translates it perfectly to screen.

Perfectly said. When they adapt books into movies, they take much license, to insure the story becomes a wonderful ‘film’. Perhaps that need do more of that when adapting a play, instead of staging every scene just as it is was in front of a live audience.
