The Snake Pit
1948 Nominee
100 Words
As a current psychiatric nurse, I can assure you that many things are different, and quite a few of them are exactly the same. There’s still more patients than the system – or the physical structure of the hospital, or the meagre number of staff – can handle adequately. There’s still more emphasis on psychotherapy than movement implementation such as yoga, or new modalities that respond to trauma. Doctors vary in levels of attentiveness and nurses vary in levels of burnout. Patients vary in levels of insight and motivation. There’s way more medications than in this movie. There’s never any actual snakes.
