A Letter to Three Wives
1949 Nominee
100 Words
Rita, Debbie, and Lora Mae receive one letter between the lot of them from the infamous Addie Ross, stating that she has run off with one of their husbands. Leave it to Addie to keep a girl on edge; she doesn’t bother to clarify which husband has gone off with her. The women keep their composure during the picnic, but each goes to her separate corner to contemplate whether her own husband is the culprit. Debbie mulls over her drinking; Rita mulls over her disastrous career; and Lora Mae mulls over the fact that she treated marriage like a transaction.
