From Here to Eternity
1953 Best Picture

100 Words
Prewitt transfers to a new base and he does NOT want to talk about his history as a bugle boy (it has nothing to do with the snack chips, probably. He won’t talk about it).

Befriending Maggio and not just for his singing voice, Prewitt also gets involved with a lady of the night.

Meanwhile, a sergeant gets involved with his coworker’s wife, who seems a little chilly even when they have sex on the beach. Is that hot? Is no one worried about sand in their nethers? It looks great, but it probably feels grating is all I’m saying.

never mind all that… the, “Okay Fatso, if it’s killin’ you want….” action scene is one of the most memorable in my movie life… 🙂

It’s because we’re older and in love with WWII; I also adored this movie. I’ve won a lot of trivia points, because they’re always popping Q’s about this film. (What was the rank of most of the men in ‘From here to Eternity’?) It’s also worth mentioning that the book, written by a real Sergeant who served, is wonderful. That last scene, with the women on the ship, made this young girl fall in love with Hawaii from afar. After at least 10 trips there, I still can’t get to those isles enough.
