Hashtag Shaniac

Shane
1953 Nominee

100 Words
The alternate title is a shout-out to BuzzFeed Unsolved host, skeptic, and Chicago local Shane Madej. But he has nothing to do with this movie except that he shares the first name of the hero. (Shane Madej, you’re my hero).

Readers, this is a Western. I have a hard time getting excited about a Western, but I have to say, this one is entertaining. It’s shockingly violent for the 1950s; while Americans were becoming boxed into suburban upkeep, our pent-up, post-war rage started to seep into films and other creative pursuits like this one.

It’s FINE. We are FINE now.

I’ve been afraid of Palance my whole life … yes, that scene, is – well astonishingly powerful. Beautiful film, brilliant, remarkable characters and acting. And then there’s the STORY! It did NOT win best screenplay; it should have. THIS is a film worth watching over and over again, and I have.
