Port in a Storm

The Caine Mutiny
1954 Nominee

100 Words
Humphrey Bogart plays an unpopular sea captain and the result is magnificent.

A newbie teams up with a couple of seasoned sailors aboard The Caine and one of them, an aspiring writer (of course), convinces the other two that the captain is a lunatic. He calls the captain, “A paranoid,” which just goes to show you that mental health treatment has earned some nuanced linguistics since 1954.

The trouble brews during a storm when the duo have to decide for themselves whether to believe the aspiring writer, who I believe was involved in a Double Indemnity case before setting sail.
