A perfectionist alcoholic has a controlling wife, or at least, that’s what he wants his boss to believe.

While the grace of Grace illuminates the best parts of the picture – the title character, presumably, even though there isn’t one allusion to the country and who the hell knows why this is the title – there’s not an ounce of chemistry threading its way through any of the relationships, and the story could use a shot or two of excitement.

It just goes to show that the show must go on, but even a stellar cast can’t always make the feeling last.

    So I looked it up. Like Shakespeare’s stuff, this movie is adapted from an English stage play (but it’s set in NYC, so the name remains an enigma). Fun facts about it (so much more fun than this movie): the stage actress won a Tony, and it’s reappeared on Broadway twice; first in 1972 with Maureen Stapleton and Jason Robards (I love him!), and next in 2008 with Francis McDormand and Morgan Freeman (who doesn’t love them!). It’s also been done off Broadway twice, and done on television twice. Sounds as if it’s a wonderful story that just didn’t fit in the film genre (something you’ve mentioned prior).
