Around the World in 80 Days
1956 Best Picture
100 Words
Clear the air for Mr. Fogg, a Brit whose whist wits are always with him. He takes a wager that he and his travel companion whose name sounds like Passport can make it around the world in 80 days (pre-planes). Several celebrities make their way onto the screen, but it seems that conflict lingers less than the star-studded atmosphere, I fear. There isn’t enough substance to keep things interesting, but plenty of bright colors and cultural exploits. There’s a bullfight, a princess rescue, and elephants trying to outrun a train. A spectacle, it certainly is, but spectacular? I daresay not.
