This is Where My Childhood Trauma Started

The Alamo
1960 Nominee

100 Words
Listening to John Wayne attempt to speak Spanish did nothing to quell the sadness…

Once upon a time, my parents were taking me and my brother to Texas to see the Alamo. My brother, who wore a Davy Crockett hat from approximately ages 8 to 14, was ecstatic. I, age 6, frizzy-haired and hatless from approximately ages 4 to still-trying-to-find-the-right-hair-product-combination, was also ecstatic. My parents were confused, but glad we agreed on something.

That was until they realized that I thought we were going to meet Elmo, the delightful red Muppet of Sesame Street fame.

I still haven’t met Elmo.

Who did/does a hell of a lot more for humanity than did Davy.

Elmo must be very busy. The Alamo is where all of Texas’s trauma started too.
