Like a Prayer

Elmer Gantry
1960 Nominee

100 Words
Elmer is not a Fudd kind, but he does fudge his way into a career as a religious zealot because Jesus is a moneymaker. He soon encounters rapture, but not that kind, the kind that causes real heat between a God-fearing man and a God-fearing woman, heat so pure that anything mentioned in the Bible about extramarital relations suddenly seems irrelevant. A journalist follows the band of Revivalists, even though their music sucks.

Meanwhile, Elmer’s past catches up to him in the form of a hot blonde seductress. On an occasion of temptation, the seductress might finally have her revenge.

Okay – wow – think I need to see this one. Sounds like fortelling of SO MANY revered religious zealots to come. Put a bible in a liar’s hand and flocks are fooled.
