The alternate title pays respect to one, Piper Laurie, who plays the alcoholic, vitriolic Sarah to Paul Newman’s Fast Eddie. A pool shark that can barely manage to swim with the fishes, Fast Eddie hunts down Minnesota Fats and can’t hustle enough money out of him to make it worth his weight in gold.

When he stumbles into Sarah (and she stumbles into him), he holes up with her while he plans to beat Fats once and for all.

“They’re all gonna laugh at you” is from Carrie, which wasn’t nominated in 1976, but Piper sure was…and laugh, they did.
