Lawrence of Arabia
1962 Best Picture
100 Words
In the sweeping sands of the desert, there is an oasis at the center of Peter O’Toole’s eyes.
Though Atticus Finch probably deserved it, one question remains after the four-hour journey through this cinematic magic masterpiece: How in the hell did Peter O’Toole NOT win Best Actor for this? He leads fierce residents of Arabia into battle while somehow pulling off the local fashion. He manages to be both commanding and vulnerable. He manages to suppress any audience yawning in one of the longest Best Picture winners to date. All this, he manages to do while portraying a real person.
