What Have We Learned?

In the Heat of the Night
1967 Best Picture

100 Words
After a man is discovered dead, the cops bring in the first black guy they see (I’m actually serious) and decide he committed the crime because…he’s a black guy. I’m actually serious.

Instead, they discover that this black guy with a stupid name is in fact, a homicide investigator – and he’s REALLY good at what he does.

Oopsie.

After some very intense eye contact, Virgil Tibbs (I’m actually serious) agrees to help the local racists to solve this disturbing crime.

Will the racial problems in America be nonexistent 60 years after the movie wins Best Picture? No.

I’m actually serious.
