Two Dead Children

Romeo and Juliet
1968 Nominee

100 Words
I have a bone to pick with this pic because it depicts a story that everyone holds in high esteem as being utterly romantic, but it is NOT. It does not help that I was forced to read or watch this play in some form or another at least three times in high school; I am not sure if my teachers were all aware that William Shakespeare did write other plays.

It’s true that love burns brightly between the two namesakes in the title, but their families can’t get along and when people fight, they get so many things wrong.

Will didn’t start it! We revered the ‘romances’ of Samson and Delilah (she betrayed him) and Anthony and Cleopatra (they both killed themselves) long before these two kids came along.

My Oscar Wilde nominee for 1968 best alternate title: It was a ‘tie’ for awhile, but I had to break it, and not follow in the Academy’s footsteps: Royal Pains in the Ass ‘rules’ as its so timely today!
