It’s hard to say if my mother was influenced by Dolly Parton or by this technicolor nightmare of a movie, but I hope it is the former. It is really pretty.

But 1969 was a big, dark, wake-up call of a year and if this film gracing the list of nominees proves anything, it’s that even the Academy wanted to forget reality for awhile. Even if it means watching two very dorky dudes woo ladies who sell hats. Even if it means trying to buy that Babs can’t ask out a guy. Even if it means listening to forgettable lyrics.
