Coming Attractions

The Last Picture Show
1971 Nominee

100 Words
I had to watch this movie for extra credit for a class in film school and the instructor still gave me a B because I kept falling asleep in class and it turns out that I had undiagnosed Hashimoto’s disease and ever since then, I’ve been on thyroid medication and I stopped falling asleep in class.

This is one of those occasions where everyone is wrong (although a B really isn’t so bad) – like in this movie, where even the adults seem to act like stuck children. What’s with all the predators in this small town? Timothy Bottoms is amazing.

This movie was hauntingly great at describing a small town – especially one in Texas. I spend a lot of time in Texas and have driven in and out of it, through it, far too many times. This place is still there, lurking, in many of the smaller places I’ve seen – in Texas and: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Montana, Nebraska, etc. Brilliant, brilliant, screenplay. The rest of the cast was as marvelous as Bottoms.
