The start of the franchise was marked by gritty filmmaking and a leading man in a too-small hat. The story itself is a tender little underdog tale (or tail, as we are discussing dogs), not a big, showy blockbuster – not at first.
The concept of a man punching the blood out of frozen meat who can still be a big softie when it comes to the girl at the pet store is one that doesn’t get old because as it does turn out, there are still plenty of nice guys left.
He isn’t so much Sly as he is sweet.
