Drama Response

The Goodbye Girl
1977 Nominee

100 Words
Paula can’t catch a break, only breakups (probably because she keeps dating actors). She and her daughter are devastated they aren’t going to California, especially when the culture shock of shacking up with a subletting Chicagoan (who is also an actor) disrupts the girls’ daily routines.

Despite their numerous differences, Elliot and Paula manage to make up a friendship while they take up the same space; it doesn’t hurt that the little one is pretty nutso about their new roommate.

Richard III may be in the winter of his discontent, but I am always pretty content while watching this one.

I did love this movie, though I’m not a Mason fan. However, Dreyfuss (Richard the III) gets better ever time I watch him … he was fantastic. Another marvelous screenplay by one of finest ever: Neil Simon.
