Mikhail Baryshnikov

The Turning Point
1977 Nominee

100 Words
The alternate title is the name of one of the finest ballet dancers ever to grace the stage and also the name of someone IN this movie. Plus, it is a really fun name to say aloud.

While Anne Bancroft herself was also a dancer (here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson), the truth is that I felt like I was watching a watered-down narrative weakly constructed around a ballet dance showcase. There is a pretty hilarious fight between MacLaine and Bancroft, but still.

Just show me the ballet.

Seriously, I would watch two hours of a dialogue-free Baryshnikov performance without complaint.

Loved this movie too. Like you, I love ballet, Bancroft and MacClaine; but … oh my – it was Baryshnikov who STOLE THE SHOW HANDS DOWN BABY!!!
