Howards End
1992 Best Picture Nominee
100 Words
Emma Thompson snagged an Oscar for acting (followed by one for writing, making her my idol) for this this portrait of a lady whose beautiful home is willed to a kind stranger (enter, Emma Thompson). The late affectionate lady’s family is in fits over the decision and burns the evidence in a fireplace, only to find that the kind stranger (Emma Thompson) is actually quite charming, though a bit chatty. She soon marries the head of the household and though he has many quaint cottages all over the place, Howards End is the favorite of his new wife (Emma Thompson).
