Bottle Stopper

The Lost Weekend

This movie is nearly 80-years sober and as a sober someone myself, I can’t begin to describe its accuracy in portraying addiction. Ray Milland deserved the golden guy for his anti-hero, Don, a man whose drinking habits have cost him nearly everything, yet he continues to search for answers at the bottom of every bottle. It’s easy for the audience to see why Helen can’t quit her Don habit either and my heart nearly fell right out of my chest at the sight of her asleep on his front steps.

“How many are like me?” Don wonders.

I wonder too.

Yay U.S. education, complacent society and profits-over-people businesses…

Flick after flick show us the threat of addictions… yet the pushers who push HARD using every “sell at all costs” trick in the book eat at all of us.
