In a super small coastal town somewhere in Canada, Lew Ayres returns! He’s a doctor! He decides to spend time learning how to communicate with a woman who is deaf and mute using sign language. Belinda learns quickly, but her Aunt is frustrated at Belinda’s new lack of attention to tending the farm. While she and Belinda’s father are away, Belinda is attacked and later gives birth to a baby. The small town is full of gossips and hurt feelings (not to mention, a rapist) and the people are abuzz with whether the good doctor is the father of Johnny.
